Most airlines offer discounts and incentives to potential passengers to book with them on their own website. In the last 10 years, cheap air travel has created opportunities for ordinary people to travel to many faraway places at discounted prices.  Airlines have exploited the power of the Internet to offer low-cost air travel and cheap deals via online booking engines.  However in the last few years, the sharp increase in the global oil price has forced some small airlines out of business and made it increasingly difficult for bucket shop airlines to continue to offer ridiculously low cheap airfares. 

Traditionally, airlines have used a business model based that relied on capitalising expensive business travelling seats, while filling up as many economy seats as possible.  However, smaller and more nimble companies like EasyJet have exploited the power of Internet technology to vary their prices depending upon when they release air tickets.  If they find that their own future scheduled flights are pre-booked well in advance, prices tend to rise for the remaineder of the offer.  Conversely, they have reduced prices its in situations where not many of the tickets had been purchased yet and the plane would therefore be only half full just weeks or days before it is due to take off.

The airline industry has always prided itself on providing higher quality of customer service in order to differentiate itself from its competitors.  However, as the price war had become more and more fierce, the emphasis on cost cutting has become more and more focused. In exchange for a no-frills basic plane ticket price, 'up selling' now occurs on meals, snacks, suitcase weight and even ' premier economy'.  These optional extras have been offered to passengers as additional choices in order to make additional revenues.

Nobody really liked visiting an airport. Many passengers feel like cattle being herded into a coral in the process of waiting around at an airport for a plane to take off.  The endless queuing, security checks, baggage reclaim and general hustle and bustle make the whole experience thoroughly tiresome and frustrating.  Most airports offer a more luxurious airport lounge waiting area, for passengers who can afford to pay for a bit more for comfort while they wait. Some airports provide families with kids play areas to keep the little ones amused during the long wait and inevitable delays.  There's not much to do that major airports other than shop, eat or drink.  Most airport prices do not resemble the high street and beware of boredom purchases for gadgets you don't really want or need anyway.

Most airports have meet and greet helpers who can help you navigate to your check-in desk or find your airline representative.  These people provide a helpful service and help to supplement the customer information desk which may be located on the other side of a huge airport.  For business travellers, most airports now provide wireless access to the Internet to access e-mails and electrical power points to charge up laptops.  

Before you leave your journey to the airport, consider whether or not you should be booking an airport car parking space at a nearby car park.  This may reduce your airport car park in cost considerably, when compared to turning up on the day and putting it in the long-term multi-storey car park at the airport itself.  Most airport car park providers, put on a frequent shuttle service which takes passengers from the offside car park directly into the entrance to the airport terminal.

Many cheaper redeye flights leave at unsocial hours in the early hours of the morning. This inevitably means getting up in the middle of the night to catch or plain or alternatively booking an airport hotel near the airport terminal to make your holiday vacation feel more relaxed just before you leave.  Most people don't realise that booking an airport hotel and combining it with a car parking package will be the same as booking the airport hotel itself. Sometimes the airport car park cost provided by the airport operator exceeds the package deal provided by local third-party hotel parking providers.
