Introduction and History

 

Liverpool Airport (Liverpool John Lennon Airport) is based southeast of the city of Liverpool supporting over 1.5 milion passengers per annum flying to destinations acoss the UK and Europe.  During WW1 hoton park was used by the army for training, In 1919, the Royal Flying Corps were stationed at the aerodrome. In 1930 the offcial Liverpool was born as it commenced commercial passnger services. The new terminal building was built in 1939. In 1966 a new runway was opened by the Duke of Edinburgh. In 1986 the new passenger terminal was built.   Liverpool airpot is located about twenty minutes from the city centre of Liverpool, close to the M57. It site on the A561 south of the centre.

Facilities

 

Introduction The main airport facilities are on the ground floor of the terminal building. They include a restaurant and lounge area on the first floor 

 

Food: On Level 3 there is the Aintree Food Village and Burger King and the Estuary Bar. where you can find hot and cold food and drink. The Estuary Food Village and The Daytripper Bar also provide refreshments at Liverpool airport.  

 

Shops: Shops at Lverpool airport include Alpha tax and duty free shopping selling perfume, cosmetics and skincare plus gifts and treats such as sunglasses, fashion accessories, watches, leather goods, confectionery and duty paid spirits, wine and champagne. On the Boardwalk Shopping Mall there is alo Butlers Chocolates, House of Champions, Sock Shop, TS Electronics, Boots, Soft Shoe Co, Sportstech and WHSmith Travel.  

 

Currency Exchange: There are numerous Travelex shops inside the terminal providing money exchange service to all the countries served from Liverpool John Lennon Airport. In addition, travellers cheques and money sending abroad services are available. 

 

Disabled Facilities: Facilities include low level phones, wheelchairs, induction loop system and dedicated parking spaces.

Business Travellers

 

The Halewood Executive Lounge provides complimentary newspapers, drinks and food, interbet access, phones and laptop connectivity. It is located in the depature lounge beyond security. It is availble for 'Priority Pass Holders' but also on a pay as you go for anyone who wants to pay an access it.   The Cavern Suite provides conference facilities f aswell as complimentary newspapers, net access and food and drink.

Getting There and Local Travel Connections

 

Road: From Liverpool centre take the A561 to Runcorn and follow signs to the airport. From Warrington take the A road to Widnes then the A561 and follow signs to the airport. From M56 go over the river at Runcorn on A557 to A561 signs to the airport.   From the North take M6 south to J21A to M62 J6 to A5300 to A561 and follow the signs.   

 

Train: Liverpool airport is served by Garston and Hunts Cross local and regiponal train stations. 

 

Taxi: The are black cabs leaving from th airport going into the city center. 

 

Bus or Coach: Bus' depart from outside the Airport terminal building. The main services are as follows:- Airport > Liverpool City centre (500) | Airport > Garston Rail Station > Penny Lane>Paradise Street Bus Station (80a) | Airport > Hunts Cross Rail Station>Childwall>Broadgreen > Queens Drive> Bootle Strand.
