Introduction and History
Glasgow airport offers a range of European and transatlantic destinations it support over 8 million passengers per year with 40 destinations and itsScotland's busiest airport. The airport is owned by BAA and it has 2 runways. The airport is located about 30 minutes from the centre of the City of Glasgow. Glasgow Prestwick started life around 1934 when David McIntyre bought 348 acres of Ayrshire countryside. He built a small control tower and a hangar. During World War Two the site was used for American planes. In 1941 the aviation factory was rebuilt and is still there today with beautiful architecture. In 1962 a new control tower and terminal building was built and the Queen opened it in 1964. In 1992 BAA sold Prestwick. The airport or was purchased by Stagecoach plc in 1998. By 2001 passenger numbers were over 1 million per year and an enormous amount of freight traffic started going through the airport. In 2002 new shopping and food facilities were created at the airport. Glasgow airport is eight miles west of Glasgow city off junction 28 of the M8 motorway.

Facilities
Introduction Facilities include a post office, telephones, fax, and e-mail facilities, a left luggage facility, a lost property service, baggage handlers, a pharmacy, prayer room, baby care facilities and childrens play areas. The check in and arrivals is on the ground floor. There are allocated smoking designated areas.

Currency Exchange: TTT Moneycorp can be found in both terminals and provides a pre-order service which can be pay on collection.

Facilities: Disabled facilities include lifts, induction loops, accessible toilets, disabled parking spaces, ramps, TDD telephone and Minicom information.

Business Travellers
The Servisair executive lounge can be pre-booked - it has complimentary drinks and snacks. BA, BMI and KLM first and business class passengers can use the BA terrace lounge (at Gate 18), bmi diamond lounge (first floor, Domestic Pier) and the KLM lounge (International Pier). respectively. There is a business area with PC, phone, internet on 1st floor concourse. Laptops, palmtops or obiles can also access email and the internet via the wireless LAN. Starbucks in UK arrivals also has a web point.

Local Travel Connections
Road: From Glasgow town center, take the M8 to Paisley, turn off at J28. From Edinburgh take the M8 through Glasgow to J28. From the South take the M6 North from Birmingham, then M74 J4 onto M8 west.
Train: Paisley's Gilmour Street train is 2 milesfrom Glasgow airport providing services from Paisley Gilmour Street to Glasgow Central, Ayr and Clyde Coast destinations.
Taxi:
Bus or Coach: Bus stops ate at the terminal forecourt. 905 - Citylink and Fairlineto and from Glasgow City Centre (bays 1 and 2). Rail link buses to Paisley Gilmour Street Station (bay 3) 901 - Port Glasgow, Greenock and Gourock (bay 4) 915 - Dumbarton, Fort William, Kyle of Lochalsh and Portree (bay 4) 906 - Port Glasgow, Greenock, Wemyss Bay, Largs (bay 4) 18 - Paisley, Linwood, Houston and Bridge of Weir (bay 5) 300 - Clydebank, Inchinnan and Erskine (bay 5).
Each terminal is interconnected with the other using a covered walkway.
