Introduction and History - Birmingham International
Airport serves the greater Midlands area, Birmingham International Airport is
one of the largest in the UK, based in the Midlands handling 12 million
passengers a year. There are two terminals. The airport opened in July 1939.
During WW2, the Air Ministry used it. Birmingham City obtain ownership in
1960. In 1991 the second terminal opened (Eurohub). In 1993, private sector
investment dictated future plans. 13km (8 miles) southeast of Birmingham.
Situated on the A45 Coventry Road, appox 8 miles east of Birmingham City
Centre. The airport is also close to Junction 6 of the M42 but there are
direct connections from the M1, M5, M6 and the M40.
Facilities - Facilities include; left-luggage
facility on the first floor in T1, baggage trolleys in the main entrance,
check in desks on the ground floor, telephones, postal services, left luggage
on the first floor, 24 hour medical centre, photo machine on the ground floor,
baby changing rooms, arrivals baggage collection and meeting areas on the
ground floor.. Bureau de Change on the ground floor, the baggage reclaim hall
and the International departure lounge ATMs on the ground floor. . Facilities
include disabled toilets, lifts, wheelchairs available on request from
airlines, induction loop system, TextPhone in T1 (hearing for the deaf), staff
who can use sign language at the information deak, allocated car parking (Blue
Badge scheme does not operate except in authorised areas). . Connected by
Millennium Link walkway..

agents Aviance and Servisair have lounge facilities for their customer
airlines. Business services available in each lounge. Located in T1 (between
Concourse B and C) with meeting rooms, email, PC workstations and fax.

Getting There and Local Travel Connections - getting
there by road is simple... From Birmingham city centre take A45 east to
Coventry. From the South or North of England take the M42 (which links to the
M40 and M1 from London, M6 from Manchester and the M5 from the South East) to
J6, turn off onto the A45 towards Birmingham to the A45. The M6 toll road
provides a fast alternative. . . The main train connections are as follows:
Air-Rail Link connects the airport Passenger Terminals with Birmingham
International Rail Station running every 2 minutes. Trains run between
Birmingham International and New Street Station in the city centre takes 20
minutes) and from there you can reach destinations across the country.. To
reach the airport by taxi Based between T1 and T2 at the rank outside the
Millennium Link Building, each taxi carries maximum of five people with
luggage.. To use either bus or coach to get there The bus stop is located
outside the main terminal. Services operated by Travel West Midlands include
37A to Birmingham City Centre (Stop K,) 58A to Birmingham City Centre (Stop
K), 900 Airport Link to Birmingham City Centre (Stop K), 900 Airport Link to
Coventry (Stop L), 966 Airport Link to Erdington (Stop M) and 966 Airport Link
